Your body needs calcium for several reasons. Calcium is needed for your muscles to contract and relax, your nerves to function, and for your blood to clot properly. You store 99 percent of your calcium in our bones. When you need more calcium for your blood, nerves and muscles, your body will remove the calcium from your bones. To keep your bones strong, you need to get enough calcium in your diet. Calcium loss from the bones will add up over time, and that means an increased risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures as you grow older.

Women in their 40's and 50's are the one's who really need to make sure they get plenty of calcium. Women are at a higher risk of osteoporosis and need to make sure they drink plenty of milk or take calcium supplements. Milk is one of the main sources of calcium but you can find calcium in other foods and drinks.

The best source of calcium is dairy products like milk, cheese and yogurt. foods such as orange juice fortified with calcium and calcium-fortified cereals are also good ways to get enough calcium in food. Other good sources include sardines, green vegetables, broccoli, soy beans, figs and foods fortified with calcium. We need at least three servings of dairy products per day, or four servings or more parts of the plant source.

Here i am sharing some of my thoughts about how to get enough Calcium

* Know the calcium requirements for your age group. Keep track of what you eat for at least a week.
* Take a good calcium/magnesium supplement if you find your diet is lacking in calcium.
* Check to see if you are getting enough Vitamin D for your age group. Vitamin D is necessary for calcium to be absorbed.
* Find out which foods are high in oxylates and phytates by researching online
* Research foods that are high in calcium and incorporate these into your diet. Dairy foods and green vegetables are best.
* Eat plenty of dairy products if you don't like vegetables. Dairy products contain the most easily absorbed form of calcium.
